PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Dear Families,

I hope everyone had a fun and enjoyable long weekend celebrating WA Day on Monday, despite the weather.

Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons are done and dusted for 2023. Thank you to all the parents for keeping up with the washing challenges over the two weeks and to all the staff for the continual changes that swimming lesson brings to the school structure for the two weeks.

Reconciliation Week

Last week was National Reconciliation Week and it was great to see the variety of learning experiences in different classrooms around this important concept. The passion that came from our upper primary students through some of their discussions and their search for truth was very powerful.

P and C Meeting

Our P and C Meeting was held last night and we will have an update from this in our next newsletter. As always, thank you to the parents who contribute to our P and C to support our school, staff and students.

School Board

Our next School Board Meeting will be held next Wednesday, June 14th at 5pm in the staffroom. As always, non Board members are most welcome to come and view what occurs within our meetings.

Year 6 Camp

On Wednesday, our Year 6s head off on a three day, two night camp. I hope they and all staff attending have an enjoyable time and they meet the challenges and build their teams.

Computer Room upgrade

Have you had a look at our new look computer lab? This term we have had the computer room walls repaired and painted, had blinds fitted and removed old wiring and fittings. Most recently we have also removed all of the old tables and fixed height chairs and replaced them with new tables and adjustable height chairs which cater for students of all ages. I would like to thank the P and C for contributing last year’s Colour Run fundraising funds of over $6700 to help the school fund this project. The project in total was $18,000 which has created a more engaging, inspiring and appropriate environment for our students to access this technology.

Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is on next week in the Undercover area and is being coordinated by your P&C. Profits from books purchased come back to our school and are used to gain more resources for our wonderful library as well as being used by your P&C to purchase the end-of-year Book Awards. Our Book Fair is part of a reading event that brings to school a wonderful selection of fun, engaging and affordable books kids want to read. Giving children access to good books and the opportunity to choose books will motivate them to read more. Students will be able to view books and then purchase on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Cyber Safety Night

Maths Information sessions for Parents

We know that sometimes helping children with Maths at home can be a daunting and challenging prospect. So, we have organised free Maths workshops for parents which don’t build your maths skills, but help you to support your child with their maths. There will be two sessions: Tuesday 27th June 5.30pm Kindy to Year 2 focus and Wednesday 28th June Year 3 to Year 6 focus. Please click below to:

Key concepts covered by our presenter from Mathematics Association of Western Australia (MAWA) are:

  • Children need to see that mathematics is useful and belongs outside the classroom and that you as parents actively use maths every day.
  • Parents will be given practical and easy ways to feel confident about mathematics and support their child. We will also explore the importance of mathematical language.
  • This workshop is a means to help you understand the maths your child is doing and not to judge your maths knowledge.

BUSH WARDENS

On Friday 2nd June, Bush Wardens had Perth Reptile Company present a reptile display. Students had the opportunity to hold a variety of pythons, and a frog. We learned about snake safety, and what to do if we find a snake in the wild. The students at Noranda Primary School, showed great bravery as they were holding the snakes, and made sure to be gentle with them. Thank you to all the parent helpers on the day.

ENROLMENTS 2024

Registrations are invited for Kindergarten and Pre-Primary (not already enrolled at Noranda PS Kindergarten) for 2024. Application forms are available from the office between 9:00am and 2:00pm.

Children born between 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020 are eligible for Kindergarten.

Applications close 21 July 2023.

You will be asked to show your child’s Birth Certificate (original or certified copy) or birth extract or equivalent identity documents; your child’s Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement (downloaded through myGov); proof of your child’s usual place of residence e.g. utilities account, lease agreement, statutory declaration and copies of any Family Court or other court orders, and visa details (if applicable).

Principals may accept a maximum of 3 documents as evidence of your child’s usual residential address. Principals are able to request additional information where this is necessary to confirm your child’s usual place of residence.

You will need to provide evidence of your child’s current immunisation status when you lodge an application to enrol. You can provide one of the following:

  • Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement that is not more than two months old; or
  • Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Form for children on a catch up schedule that is not more than six months old; or

Other immunisation documents are no longer accepted.

Once the application has been accepted, you will be required to complete an Enrolment Form. If your Application for Enrolment is not accepted, you will be advised in writing within three weeks of the advertised closing date for applications.

This is also the time to enrol your child in High School for Year 7 in 2024.

NORANDA RUNNING CLUB

No matter how fit you are – anyone can join in. Family members are welcome to join in too for fitness and quality time spent with your children. If you don’t want to run or walk but would like to attend, we are always looking for parents to help supervise the students.

Kindergarten and Pre Primary students are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.

The group meets every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 7.45am to 8.15am. We start with an aerobic warm up in the undercover area before moving to the oval. Please be ready to start promptly at 7.45am.

Students should bring a water bottle and may pack an extra snack to have before school. Eg banana.

If you are interested, please complete the registration form located in the side panel and hand it in to the office.

Running Club operates in all weather conditions – if it’s too wet to get to the oval we use the undercover area.

Many Thanks
Miss Fullarton & the Running Club Team

BATTERY COLLECTION (EMRC)

Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council together with the City of Bayswater continues to run the school household battery recycling program at our school. The aim of the program is to divert batteries away from landfill and recycle them at a special recycling facility. The batteries are made into new products such as car parts, street lighting and new batteries.

The EMRC battery collection and recycling program accepts only dry cell batteries found in toys, radios, phones, computers, power tools etc. Lead-acid or sealed lead-acid batteries which are rectangle or square shaped and heavy cannot be recycled through this program.

Each classroom has a collection container which is weighed when full and added to our office collection bin. Parents, so that we can collect more batteries this year, please consider keeping a battery collection container at your workplace and dropping it into the office when it is full.
